Setting Up Your First Blueprint

This article walks you through creating your first Blueprint using Blankstate’s tools and guidance.

Updated over 5 months ago

What is a Blueprint?

A Blueprint is the foundation of your Blankstate journey. It’s your custom-built operational map that defines:

  • What your organization is aiming for

  • How your team should operate

  • What success looks like—day to day and long term

By building a Blueprint, you give your team clarity, consistency, and a shared understanding of excellence.

How to Set Up Your First Blueprint

🗺️ 1. Choose Your Map

Start by selecting the type of Blueprint you want to build:

  • Pre-built maps: Use a template informed by industry best practices—ideal for fast setup.

  • Custom maps: Use Consensus AI (Eva) to analyze real workflows, documents, and decisions from your own organization. Eva helps tailor the Blueprint to reflect your unique operating context.

Tip: If you're not sure where to start, choose a pre-built map and refine it over time.

📜 2. Define Your Protocols

Protocols are your rules of engagement. They set the standards for how work should be done.

You can define protocols for:

  • Service quality (e.g. "What does good advice look like?")

  • Safety procedures

  • Decision-making frameworks

  • Communication best practices

These protocols ensure your team isn’t just getting work done—they’re doing it well.

📊 3. Set Your Metrics

Next, define how you’ll measure success. Metrics are the indicators that show whether your protocols are being followed and your goals are being met.

  • KRIs (Key Risk Indicators) track areas where things could go wrong.

  • OPIs (Operational Performance Indicators) measure how well the team is executing tasks aligned with your protocols.

Clear metrics allow for objective, consistent evaluation—and help identify what’s working and what needs attention.

What’s Next?

Once your Blueprint is set:

  • You’ll be ready to deploy Stream to guide live operations.

  • You'll gain visibility into how your standards are being followed in real time.

  • And you’ll be set up for meaningful, data-driven improvement.
